Mr. Ivins died Thursday, November
4 in Quitman, TX after a lengthy
illness.
He was born May 22, 1925 in Viv-
ian to Gus and Bessie Ivins and was
formerly of Vivian before moving to
Mineola, TX four years ago. He was a
Veteran of WWII having served in the
U.S. Army and was plant foreman for
Amoco Productions retiring after 35
years of service. He was a 32nd de-
gree Mason and served as past Mas-
her of the Flora Lodge #119 in
Quitman, TX.
Mr. Ivins is survived by his wife of
55 years Mercedese Ivins and two
daughters; Charla Aston and husband
John of Sunnyvale, Texas, Marilyn
Almond of Sugarland, TX and one
very special grandson Spencer Ivins
Almond. He is also survived by his
sister Maurice Stevenson and hus-
band Bill of Canton, TX and one
niece Marcia Thomburgh of Winona,
TX. Visitation with family and friends
will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday at McGuire
Funeral Home, Vivian, LA.

Retired Plant Foreman for Amoco Productions after 35 years of service. Mr. Ivins was a 32nd degree Mason, and served as Past Master of the Flora Lodge #119 in Quitman, Texas. A decorated World War II veteran, and Prisoner Of War (POW) having been captured by German Armed Forces near Luxembourg, he held the rank of PFC (Private First Class E3) in the U.S. Army, and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart near Metz, France, Bronze Star Medal with two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters representing the 2nd, and 3rd award for bravery in combat in the Rhineland, Ardennes, and Northern France campaigns with the 10th Infantry Division as a automatic rifleman. His participation in combat earned additional awards of the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre of Operations Medal, the American Theatre of Operations Medal, and ultimately the World War II Victory Medal. Honorably discharged on December 7, 1945. On 8 November 1985, Congress authorized The Prisoner of War Medal of the United States Armed forces, and was signed into law by President Ronald Reagan under the United States Code citation for the POW Medal statute within Section 10 U.S.C. § 1128.O for any person who was a prisoner of war after April 5, 1917.
