Mary Jane (Shannon) Percival died September 27, 2008 at a Topeka, Kansas hospital from an infection contracted in a health care setting. It was not her time to go.
She was born July 21, 1925 in Galena, Illinois to William Shannon and Rose (Studier) Shannon.
After her fathers death when she was three years old she began, against all persuasion, following her brother John to school. The Nuns at Saint Michaels Grade School acquiesced and invited her to join the fist grade class.
Upon graduating from Galena High School in 1942 at age 16, a clerical error listing her age as 21 permitted her go begin employment in the office of the Army weapons proving ground in Savanna, Illinois.
Over the next five decades she worked in industrial manufacturing and quality control. After retirement, she and her husband Don traveled throughout the Southwest managing, training and in property acquisitions for an international hotel/motel consortium. Her thoughtful and caring demeanor and sincere interest in others reaped many friends whose tears cannot fill the void left by losing her. She leaves behind two grieving children, Bill (Julie) of Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri and Bob of Topeka. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Donald.
Internment was at St. Michaels Cemetery in Galena, Illinois.
