Year of death on tombstone is wrong. She died just after 1880. In the Wyandott Herald, Kansas City, Kansas, January 6, 1881, page 2 is this article:
"Died, in this city, on Sunday, Jan. 2, 1881, of acute pneumonia, Mrs. Elizabeth Bates, mother of Mrs. Eli Potter, aged 79 years, 1 months and 27 days. The deceased was in good health until but a few days before her death."
Following her death she must have been sent to Illinois to be buried near her son, publisher William Henry Bates, with whom she had lived prior to his marriage and for some time afterward.
