Vincent M. Howie was born March 3, 1922, in the town of Depeyster, son of Wrenzo and Erdine Mayne Howie. He attended Heuvelton High School and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, from 1942 to 1945. After his military discharge, he attended New York City Barber School, graduating in 1946.

He married Mary "Bea" Robillard on May 10, 1949, at Notre Dame Church.

He began his barbering career in Potsdam in 1947, running Vincent's Barber Styling Shop until November 2006.

Mr. Howie was musically talented, was a songwriter and trumpet player and led a dance band called All Styles Music, with which he played throughout the north country, performing at various Veterans of Foreign Wars posts, the Lisbon American Legion, Sunset Lodge, Norwood, and a variety of other venues. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and a member of the Potsdam American Legion, the Potsdam and Ogdensburg Elks clubs, the Massena VFW and the Sandstone Senior Citizens.
