Mose I. Holmes, 85, went home to be with the Lord on November 13, 2008, at CAMC General Hospital after suffering a head injury.

He was a born-again Christian.

He was the oldest living member of Union Valley Gospel Tabernacle Church, Tuppers Creek, Charleston. He sang gospel, first with the Union Valley Trio. He raised four sons up in church and taught them about Jesus.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Wanda Lee Sigmon Holmes, who went home to be with the Lord April 6, 1994.

Mose leaves behind four sons and their wives, Ronald and Charlotte Holmes of Elkview, Michael and Sharon Holmes of Tuppers Creek, Richard and Teresa Holmes of Kellys Creek and Timothy and Bunny Holmes of Sissonville; eight grandchildren, Cynthia Burdette of Sissonville, Rickie Holmes of Charleston, Doug Holmes of Charleston, Ronnie Holmes of Elkview, Tonya Belcher of Charleston, Lynette Pritt of Charleston, Robbie Holmes of Elkview and Airiana Holmes of Elkview; five step-grandchildren, Larry Marion of Charleston, Nathan Marion of Charleston, Jenny Watt of Newark, Ohio, Jeff Beary of Charleston and Jessie Swanson of Montrose, Colo.; 12 great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his brother, Floyd H. Holmes, of Charleston.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Sunday, November 16, at Long & Fisher Funeral Home, Sissonville, with the Rev. Robert Legg officiating. Burial will be in Monk Cemetery, Tuppers Creek. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
