Funeral services for Dr. Wayne Alliston, 65, who served as pastor of the Houston Baptist Church from 1919-1921, were conducted from the Briar Hill Baptist Church at Jackson at 10 am, Wednesday.

The body was taken to Baldwyn Funeral Home in Jackson, where it lay in state for an hour before the funeral.

Dr. Alliston was active pastor of the Briar Hill church until his illness several weeks ago. He had been pastor there seven years and was also pastor of the Baptist Church at Star.

He was a former superintendent of Baptist Hospital, having served in that capacity for 8 years. During the depression days he was state WPA director in Mississippi.

He left this position to accept the pastorate of Turner Memorial Baptist Church at Ft. Worth, Tex., and later returned home to become pastor of the Briar Hill and Star churches.

A native of Rankin County, Rev. Alliston graduated from Steen's Creek high school, Mississippi College and Southwest Theological Seminary at Ft. Worth, Texas.

He was the son of the late Charlie Walter and Mary Lou Webb Alliston.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sallie South Alliston, of the Monteray community; a daughter, Mrs. R S Carroll of Jackson; three sons, Wayne, Jr., Bay St. Louis, Miley of Houston, Texas, John W of Baytown, Texas; one sister, Mrs. Berry Lowether of Florence, Miss.; six brothers, Thompson, Joe and Vaughn, all of Florence, Wiley of Ft. Worth, Walter of Jackson and Robert of Brandon; five grandchildren.

Dr. W D Hudgins officiated at the services, assisted by Dr. W A Hewitt.

The family requested that "all of Rev. Alliston's friends, both white and negro," be invited to the funeral service. He had a large number of friends among the colored people.
