David W. House, of O'Fallon, Missouri, died on Monday, October 6, 2008, at the age of 63.

Retired Chief David W. House served as Fire Chief of the O'Fallon Fire Protection District from November 1980 until his retirement in December 1999, and as a career firefighter for over 33 years. During his career, he served nine St. Louis area fire departments as a volunteer or career firefighter. He served as an Associate Instructor for the University of Missouri Fire and Rescue Training Institute and a Train-the-Trainer Instructor for the National Fire Academy. He was a Peer Evaluator for the Commission on Fire Accreditation International. Retired Chief House served as a past President of the Missouri Association of Fire Chiefs, President of the Missouri Association of Fire Department Instructors, President of the Missouri Association of Fire Protection Districts and President of the Greater St. Louis Area Fire Chiefs Association. He also served as Chairman of the Greater St. Louis Area Metropolitan Mutual Aid Committee. Retired Chief House has been a volunteer with the St. Louis Bi-State Chapter of the American Red Cross for over 25 years having served on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee. He was Chairman of Disaster Services for three years and served on the St. Charles Red Cross Advisory Board for over 10 years.

Retired Chief Dave House leaves behind his wife Bettsey, two children, Dr. Erica Miller and her husband, Captain Rick Miller, Captain Ryan House and his wife, Molly. His daughter, Erica, is a practicing Veterinarian in the O'Fallon area. His son, Ryan, is a Captain with the Wentzville Fire Protection District. He is also survived by his three stepchildren, Christine, Craig and Curt, daughter-in-law, Amy, and grandchildren, Abby House, Kyle, Amanda, Audrey, Matthew and Alex.
