Earldean Hanchett - The funeral for Earldean A. Hanchett, 71 of Lewiston will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Mountain View Funeral Home at Lewiston.
Burial will follow at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens at Lewiston. Marion Renfro, high priest of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at Clarkston, will officiate at the funeral and burial.
Hanchett, a homemaker and recent graduate of Lewis-Clark State College's vocational-technical computer training course, died Monday at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center at Lewiston of complications of heart disease.
She was born Jan. 23, 1924, at Morris, Okla., to Earl Sylvanus and Roxie Bee King Tannahill. She lived in various states as a girl and graduated in 1940 from Noble High School at Noble, Ill., where she was the school's first majorette.
She served in the U.S. Navy for two years and was discharged in June 1946. She earned her pilot's certificate April 15, 1947, and flew in Idaho and Washington.
She married Hale W. Hanchett Sept. 25, 1946, at Kalispell, Mont. They lived a short time at Potlatch before coming to Lewiston. Her husband was employed by Potlatch Forests Inc. and she worked in her younger years for Potlatch and later for Blount, Inc. She enrolled at LCSC in 1992 at the age of 68 and earned certificates in beginning, intermediate and advanced computer training classes.
She was a member of the Baptist church and Women of the Moose, and enjoyed crocheting, knitting and embroidery. Her hobbies also included bowling, writing poetry and fishing. She had placed second in a national crossword competition and she also enjoyed animals, camping and the outdoors.
Survivors include her husband at Lewiston; two daughters, Kathy R. Burcham and Gayle Z. Jensen, both of Lewiston; a son, Gordon W. Hanchett of Lewiston; a stepson and stepdaughter, Gary Hanchett and Dolly Hanchett, both of Lewiston; a sister, Roxie Briggs of Lewiston; three brothers, Wayne Tannahill of Clarkston, Hubert Tannahill of Lewiston and Benny Tannahill of Boise; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A brother, Loren, and sister, Catherine, died previously.
Her family suggests memorials be made to the Lewis-Clark Animal Shelter at Lewiston.
