AKINS, AMOS P.—Age, 19 years. Enlisted, 12 Aug 1862, at Rockland, New York to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. A, 143rd infantry, 8 Oct 1862; promoted corporal, prior to April, 1863; sergeant, 1 Sep 1863; killed 20 Jul 1864, at Peach Tree (Creek) Ridge, Ga.

Orig. bur. at Peach Tree Creek battlefield. See Edwin Everden for more information about his death. Five men of the 143rd New York were killed in the incident: Corpl Dibble, Henschen, Vansicklen, Everden and Akins.
