Funeral services for L.S. (Jack) Bates, 83, were held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 13, 1987, from the Leesburg Baptist Church. Rev. Odis Jackson, Rev. Harold Jones and Rev. Jerry Files officiated. Interment was made in the Leesburg Cemetery.

Mr. Bates passed away on Saturday, December 12, 1987, at his home in Leesburg. Prior to his retirement he was owner/operator of Bates Merchantile in Leesburg community. He was a lifelong resident of Leesburg and a member of the Leesburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Agnes Holmes Bates of Leesburg; three daughters, Mrs. Lucille Owen, Mrs. Betty Joyce Crapps, and Mrs. Dolly Merchant, all of Leesburg; one sister, Mrs. Nell Gibbons of Morton; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Tommy Owen, Gary Thrash, Danny Ivy, Buck Alman, David Lytal, and Odis Goodson.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the men's senior adult Sunday School class of Leesburg Baptist Church.

Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton handled the funeral arrangements.
