Sgt. Bishop was part of Custer's 7th Cavalry regiment during the battle of Little Big Horn. When Custer split the 7th just prior to the engagement, Sgt. Bishop was one of the ones detailed to the "LOST Regiment". They were sent off on other orders and took no part in the actual battle.

Sgt. Bishop was also an accomplished pitcher in Brooklyn. His career pitching ended with wounds sustained on the frontier.
