MARIETTA - Services for Christine Hornbeak. 85, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Pilgrim Rest Primitive Baptist Church with elder Willie McGaskey officiating. Interment will follow at Prairie Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirk Funeral Home.
Christine was born July 4, 1920 at Ardmore to Daniel L. and Hattie Mae Carter Jones. She was the first born of their eight children. The family relocated to Marietta and Christine attended elementary school there before transferring to Ardmore's Douglass High School. She and Joe Nathan Hornbeak Sr. were married in 1942. He preceded her in death. Seven sons were born to this union.
Christine was one of the initial employees with Big Five Head Start program. She later became and continued employment at Marietta Sportswear for several years. She departed this mortal life Jan. 18, 2006 at a local health care facility. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Johnny Ray, two brothers, Will Daniel "Tiny" Jones and Kenneth Jones, and a sister, Barbara McCarrell.
Christine leaves to forever cherish precious memories five sons and daughters-in-law, Joe Jr. and Mildred, Richard, all Oklahoma City, Ronald, Ardmore, Steve and Doreen, Virginia Beach, Va., Gilbert and Tricha, Spencer, and David, Marietta; a brother and sister-in-law, Hozell and Orneta Jones, Oklahoma City; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Cora Ellison, Marietta, Hattie and Jimmie McCarroll, Langston, and Bettye and Ken Williams, Edmond; 19 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 34 nieces and nephews and numerous other relatives and friends.
