Maria married Hans Wollesen in 1846. They were the parents of 5 children: John, Nicholas, Peter, Catherine, and one more.

OBITUARY - Mrs Maria Christina Wollesen died suddenly Monday night at 10:30 after a sickness of not more than two hours. Death came as a shock to friends and relatives of the deceased as she seemed in her usual health during the evening. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church in Wall Lake.

Maria Christina Claussen was born in Germany December 28, 1826. She married in 1846 Hans Nicholas Wollesen. To this union were born 5 children, three of whom preceded the mother in death.

There are left to mourn her loss are 2 sons: John P and Nicholas Wollesen. Also 18 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.

Her husband died in 1887. Since that time she has made her home with her son John on the old home farm. The family moved from the old country to Belle Plaine, Iowa in 1870 and in 1875 came to West Side, the next year moving to the farm that has since been their home.

Two of the children that preceded her in death are: Peter and Catherine (Mrs Claus Peper).
