Lewis Robert "Hack" Wilson
[Add Flowers]
Flowers 1 to 50 (of 70 total)51 - 70
Hack Wilson hit 56 home runs in 1930.....not 54. He actually hit 57 that season but it didn't count because that game was rained out before the fifth inning and was not declared an official game. Hack lost 2 RBIs by that home run not being counted....he would have had 193 RBIs if the rain had held off that day.

"Talent isn't enough. You need common sense and good advice. If anyone tries to tell you different, tell them the story of Hack Wilson. ... Kids in and out of baseball who think because they have talent they have the world by the tail. It isn't so. Kids, don't be too big to accept advice. Don't let what happened to me happen to you." RIP Hack. I am reading a book about your terrific 1930 season with the Cubs. The record of 191 RBIs will probably live forever. I would have loved to see you play in the Friendly Confines. Please say to Ron Santo for me.

It's a proud moment to see Lewis R. "Hack" Wilson do so well since his birth in this small town called Ellwood City, Pa.. I am also a member of this same small town and it is always a proud moment for me when I drive down Hack Wilson Drive to watch the local softball games or a roller blade hockey match at Steiffel park on the edge of town. Rest In Peace Sir.
