Born in Charles City Co., VA around 1835 to Littleberry and Philena (Nance) Adams.He enlisted, at age 23, on May 9, 1861 in Co. K., 53 VA Inf. On Feb. 18, 1863, he was sick with pneumonia & rheumatism and hospitalized at Chimborazo Hospital in Richmond. He returned to duty on May 27, 1863. He was listed as AWOL from Sep. 12 thru Sep. 21, 1863. He was hospitalized again at Chimborazo on Mar. 29 1864, and returned on Jul 24, 1864. He was a POW at Richmond in Apr. 1865, and released when he took the oath of allegiance on Apr. 25, 1865 at Richmond. He died at the age of 63 at the Lee Camp Soldiers' Home, Richmond, VA.
