Ruby Dean, 82, long time Waurika area resident died Friday, Jan. 29, 1988, in a Waurika hospital after an extended illness. Funeral service was held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, in the First Baptist Church in Waurika with Rev. Tommy Billings, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Waurika Cemetery under direction of the Willis C. Worley and Sons Funeral Home in Waurika. Ruby Bell Phelps was born Aug. 25, 1905, in Indian Territory east of Waurika. She attended school at Lenwood, a country school, and on Feb. 17, 1923, she married W.S. Dean in Duncan where they lived briefly before moving to Waurika. Mr. Dean preceded her in death in 1964. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Waurika. Survivors include three daughters, Bettie J. Hoglen of Copperas Cove, TX., Roberta Bush and Virginia Mora, both of Waurika; four sons, W.H. (Pug) Dean and Billy Bob (Rusty) Dean, both of Waurika; Grover Jack (Sweet Pea) Dean of Wichita Falls; and James R. (Jimmy) Dean of Fort Cobb; two sisters, Claudia Guy and Letha Sumpter, both of Waurika; two brothers, H.A. (Buck) Phelps and R.W. (Willie) Phelps, both of Waurika; 37 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Pallbearers were grandsons.
