She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Ellis and Daisy Lee Parker; her husband, Ellis Warren Alexander; an infant son; her daughter, Enid Alexander; and her brother, Joseph Parker, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Gunter (Ricky); her sisters, Delia Mae Alexander and Delores Ann Rushing; her grandchildren, Justin Gunter (Kristyn), Lindsay Gunter; her great grandchildren, Warren Gunter, Ellie Gunter, and Sawyer Smart; and countless nieces and nephews.
Gladys was a native of Long Beach and attended Long Beach School. She married Ellis Warren Alexander on June 16, 1948 and together they had three children, two grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Gladys lived a good, full life as a homemaker who enjoyed sewing for family and friends. She loved to cook and her recipes are cherished by all that she fed. She enjoyed traveling to the Smokey Mountains and running the roads with her niece, Big Vickie who always made sure to provide a laugh when she needed it most. She was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church until illness prevented her from attending weekly. She always sent you off with a love filled "y'all come back!"
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Lakeview Nursing Center for the care that they provided to Gladys over the last year.
A special thank you goes to Pam of St. Joseph Hospice for the wonderful way she took care of our loved ones through this time.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 9, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Road, Long Beach. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
