CALHOUN CITY CONFEDERATE VETERAN- W. P. Vanhorn, 85, prominent citizen of Calhoun County, died at his home near Vardaman on Friday and was buried in the cemetery at New Liberty Church on Saturday. Rev. A. T. Putnam conducted the funeral service.
He was a Confederate veteran, belonged to CO F, Miss. Infantry, Walthalls Brigade and served four years. he was wounded twice, in the battle of Chickamauga and Murfreesboro. He was a member of the Baptist Church and took an active in interest in affairs of the county of which he was a native, having been born and reared near where he died. He served as a member of the county school board for a number of years, was Magistrate for eight years and at the time of his death, and for some time, was a director of the Calhoun County Bank at this place.
He was the father of eight children, all of whom are living, Mesdames M. A. Hollis, G. T. Evans, J. D. Blue and Miss Lucile Vanhorn, C.R., F.C.,J.R. and William Vanhorn, all of whom lived near him.
