Stanley Joseph Viator

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Mr. Stanley Joseph Viator, age 63, at 1:00 pm Saturday, February 5, 2005 at St. Marcellus Catholic Church, 6100 Avery Island Road, New Iberia. Rev. Ken Broussard will be the celebrant for the Mass. Interment will follow in St. Marcellus Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be observed on Friday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm with the recitation of the rosary at 7:00 pm. Visiting hours will resume on Saturday from 10:00 am until 12:30 pm.

A native of New Iberia and resident of Ruston, Mr. Viator passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at LSU Medical Center in Shreveport with his family at his side.

Mr. Viator was a graduate of New Iberia High School. He then attended USL where he received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Agronomy; and a Masters Degree in Plant Pathology from LSU. During that time, he started his consulting firm, Viator's Agriculture Advisory Service, and has been operating his business for the past 45 years serving many farmers throughout south Louisiana. He also was a Professor of Botany having taught 31 years at LA Tech in Ruston after teaching 2 years at Southeastern in Hammond.

Stanley was a true outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and camping; as well as working in his garden. But it can easily be said that his love for his family was most important to him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Linda Eldridge Viator of Ruston; children, Keith Viator and wife Tammie of Ruston, Michelle Viator Moudy and husband Tate of Jackson, MS, Todd Viator and wife Traci of Houston, and Kerry Viator and wife Stephanie of Ruston; eight grandchildren, Travis, Chad & Craig Viator, Brooklyn & Cole Moudy, Tori & Isabella Viator and Lauren Lopez; his sister, Judy V. Darcey of New Iberia; and his mother in law, Beatrice Eldridge of Jeanerette.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Octave & Delta Marie Bonin Viator; and his brother in law, Jimmy Eldridge. Pallbearers will be Keith, Todd & Kerry Viator, Glenn Eldridge, Patrick Judice & Charles Ogden. Honorary pallbearers will be Al Lanie & Gerard Eldridge.

Memorials may be made in Mr. Viator's name to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 810 Carey Street, Ruston, LA 71270.
