Charles Michael "Michael" "Mike" Comerford was born in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin on 27 December 1944 to Leon Edmund "Edmund" Comerford and his wife Adella F. (nee Morrison), both of Chippewa Falls. (NOTE: Michael's father commonly went by Edmund Leo Comerford, which at some point came to be considered his official name.) Michael, with his family, relocated to California during his early childhood (by age four or so). While in his mid-teens (sometime 1958-59), following the death of his father, he and his mother resettled to the Detroit, Michigan area, where Michael was to spend nearly all of the remainder of his life. He was a graduate of the Trenton High School, Trenton, Michigan, Class of 1963.

Michael was the youngest of six children, the names of his siblings being Thomas E., Beatrice M. (Moore), Delores I. (Siders), Susan M. (Ferguson), and Bonnie L. (Hyde).

A two-years early adulthood marriage produced one son, Sean M.

Michael served in the United States Air Force from 1963 to 1969, stationed in Guam and elsewhere during wartime.

He was a man of many talents and interests. The theatre and arts were great passions.

In addition to acting, he directed community and dinner theatres. Michael received many awards of recognition for his fine contributions to the theatre in the Downriver Michigan area.

He was retired from the publishing industry, sales and consulting in the academic and international library systems field.

Michael passed away in or near Wyandotte, Michigan, where he last resided, on 27 December 2007, on his 63rd birthday.

His funeral service was held at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, Allen Park, Michigan, on 2 January 2008.

ELEGY
by Charles Michael Comerford

When the day comes, as it must come, that I must pass,
Seek not to find me in the cold, barren grave,
Nor press trembling fingers to trace my name upon
The unyielding stone that marks my place,
For I am not there beneath the musty earth.
Look for me, instead, in the fresh morning mist
That blankets the dew spangled ground.
Hear my voice in the aria of the winds
As they whisper in the silver leaves,
For I am there.

When the day comes, as it will come, that I must pass,
Grieve not that my voice is still, my song unsung.
Listen as my soul sings in the humming of the power lines
That grid the sprawling city.
Listen - you'll hear me call out to you in the
Low, blowzy songs of trains that swell and fade
In the deep hours of the night.

When you hear the thunder roll, be not afraid,
For it is merely my laughter; I am content.
When lightening illuminates the skies, do not cower,
For it is simply my smile: I am here.
I am, and ever will be, with you until time's end.
Raise your face to the heavens with hope and joy,
And I will caress your cheeks and lips with gentle rain
and ease your pain with warm sun kisses.
