Chloe May Roark was born in Clarksburg, Moniteau, Missouri to Joshua Levi Roark and Nancy Catharine Williams. She graduated from Wyandotte High School: Class of 1900 and later was a teacher at The Children's Home, Kansas.

She married Stanley Ranson Swigart Ford on September 29, 1910. Stan had gone to Panama to get a job on the Panama Canal Project. When he accomplished this and got settled, he wrote for Chloe to join him. She left for Panama on the first of September and they were married the day she arrived. They would go on to have two sons, both born in the Canal Zone.

The Fords left the Canal Zone near the end of 1926 when Stan decided to open his own business. They invested in a hotel in Rogers, Arkansas which they named the Ford Hotel, with a restaurant they named "The Stanley and Chloe Restaurant." The family was wiped out by the depression.

Chloe died in Maryville, Nodaway, Missouri.
