Prism to see reassurance forms from difficult time

I want to share an experience that I had on the day before I went in for breast-cancer surgery.

That Sunday morning my husband and I had gone to church, where I continued to pray for a "miracle," or if not that, then the strength to accept His plan for me.

That afternoon, we headed out for our usual hike with the dogs on the trails behind our house. We were pretty quiet, lost in our own thoughts, I guess — mine still asking why, scared and sad — and then I got sort of mad!

I said to God, "Are you even listening? Do you know I'm here or care about me at all?"

It probably wasn't a minute later that the most beautiful rainbow we've ever seen appeared in an arc over us. It was so large and the colors so vivid, they reflected through the trees and into the lake below us.

My husband, not knowing my thoughts, said he'd never seen one like it. It truly seemed to me that this was my sign.

I was so moved I shared this with my husband and with my sister when she called that evening. When she went to work the next morning, her daily calendar offered this:

The soul would have no rainbow if the eye had no tear.

Father, how often I rush to wipe away the tear without taking time to see the rainbow that You have provided. Please help me take time to see Your touch in my tears. Amen.

◼Genie Morris wrote this as a letter to family and friends in February. Today, she writes, "The experience really strengthened my faith and helped me get through these past 10 months — the toughest test I've ever had in trusting in God. I'm doing well!"
