E. J. Gardner, Westport Tailor, Dies Suddenly

Edward Gardner, a highly respected and life long resident of Westport, died suddenly last week Wednesday of a heart attack while visiting at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ruby Cook in Albany. He was a native of Westport, having been born in that village 62 years ago; forty years ago he was graduated from a tailoring school in New York and returned to Westport where he established himself in business which he had since conducted successfully. Recently he went to Albany to visit his two daughters who are residents of that city, and it was while on this visit that he was stricken with what was proven his fatal illness. Mr. Gardner was a faithful member of the Catholic Church and took an active interest in all matters pertaining to the church. He is survived by his wife, tow daughters, Mrs. Ruby Cook and Mrs. Iva Blackhall of Albany and two sons, Dr. Harold Gardner of Coxsackie and Wallace Gardner, a senior in Harvard University. Two brothers, Philip and Mose, also survive him.
