Jean Elizabeth Barton, 79, of Temple, passed away Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, at her home. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple, with Dr. LeeRoy Kemp officiating. Burial will follow in Bellwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2007, at the funeral home.

Jean was born Dec. 14, 1927, in Coryell County, to Thomas L. and Birdie Elizabeth (Brookshire) Shafer. She was baptized in Taylor's Valley Baptist Church. She married R.L. "Sonny" Barton on July 16, 1949, in Little River Baptist Church. She worked at Baugh's Shoe Factory and Texas Instruments. Jean loved to dance and work in her yard. She was a member of the American Legion.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, R.L. "Sonny" Barton; sisters, Ruby Lee Calvary, Opal Calvary and Dora Calvary; baby brother, who passed away at birth; and several nieces and nephews.

Survivors include daughter, Dana Barton Martin and husband, Thomas, of Academy; son, Larry Barton, of Temple; sisters, Blanche Thrasher, of Cross Plains, Linda Mae Parker, of Waco and Millie Love, of Temple; brother, Tom Shafer, of Jacksonville, Texas; grandsons, Jason Barton, Jonathan Barton, Heath Martin and Ryan Martin; great-granddaughters, Scarlet Haney, McKenzie Barton and Tristyn Lilly Barton; great-grandson, Blayne Haney; and several nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jason Barton, Heath Martin, Ryan Martin, Kevin Calvary, Kasey Calvary, Brandon Petty, Chad Petty and Michael Lodin.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
