Arlene Erp, age 82, of Canby, MN passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be Friday, August 3, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Canby. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 2 from 4 – 8 p.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Canby with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Burial will be in the Bohemian Cemetery, Hansonville Township, Lincoln County. Casketbearers will be Patrick Bednarek, Jason Erp, Matt Bauman, Jeb Malone, Kevin Bednarek and Toby Valdez. Birk Funeral Home of Canby is in charge of the arrangements. Online registry is available at www.birkfuneralhome.com. Memorials are preferred to the Bohemian Cemetery Association.
Arlene Vivian Cora Schwartz was born March 25, 1925 to Charles and Cora (Dushack) Schwartz in Hansonville Twp, Lincoln County, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Madison, MN. She attended country school until the 8th Grade.
On November 18, 1947, she married William Erp, Jr. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Madison. To this union, seven children were born. Along with raising her children, she supplied rural homes with soft and hard water.
She was an active member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, VFW Auxiliary Member of Canby, Peden-Cole Post 109 Auxiliary Member of Gary, SD, ZCBJ Bohemian Lodge, and Eagles Auxiliary of Marshall. She enjoyed playing cards, visiting with grandchildren and great grandchildren and was a great fan of old time music and Charlie Pride. More past times for Arlene included dancing, bird watching, taking drives to look for deer, playing "BINGO", and sitting on the porch visiting friends and neighbors.
Arlene is survived by her children, Michael (Cheryl) Erp of Canby; Mary Adler of Canby; Nancy (John) Malone of Currie; Kathy (Doug) Madsen of Taunton; Lori Bednarek of Canby; Bonnie Bauman of Pine River; twenty-one grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; sister, Gladys Johnson of Ortonville and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; parents, Charles and Cora Schwartz; daughter, LeAnn Bednarek; grandchild, Travis Erp; and great-grandchild, Paeden Jelen.
