Death Of Thomas F. Allen
In the death of Thomas F. Allen, which occurred in this city Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock. West Plains loses one of its oldest and well-known Citizen. He passed away at his home on east Cleveland Avenue after an illness of several months.
Mr. Allen came to West Plains in 1890 from Ozark County, Missouri. He was the father of City Commissioner, H.C. Allen and Arthur Allen, both prominent merchants of this city.
He was born in Hawkins County, Tennessee, and moved to Ozark County with his family from Rogers, Tennessee. In 1885, from there they moved to West Plains five years later. His wife died here last year.
The surviving sons and daughters are H. C Allen, Arthur Allen, William Allen, Ed Allen. Mrs. William McCracken and Mrs. Bettie Wegge, all of West Plains.
For many years Mr. Allen had been a member of the Methodist church. He also was a member of the Security Benefit Society. He was a good citizen, loyal to his friends and attended strictly to his own business. Rev. James Johnson, assisted by Rev. E. H. Orear. Conducted the funeral services at the family home on east Cleveland Avenue Sunday afternoon.
Members of the Menze Quartet sang several beautiful hymns and there were many floral offerings. The Pallbearers were Fred K. Pease, J M. Duffy, B. Morrison, A. J Ferguson, Fred l Toler and Joe Crider.
Burial was in Oak Lawn cemetery.
