Eli W. Miller, 86, of Portage, IN passed away on Friday, April 23, 2004 at his residence. He was born in Browns Valley, Minnesota on August 8 1917 to the late Harry and Clara Hanson Miller. Married February 17, 1942 in Hammond, IN to Evelyn Thorsgaard, who survives; also survived by daughter Sandra Shaw of Portage, IN; brothers Willis (Irene) Miller of Munster, IN and Dean (Dot) Miller of Beardsly, MN; sisters: Ardyce (Wally) McKee of Rosholt, SD, Dorothy Leverson of Sisseton, SD, Mona Schueller of St. Mary's ID, Marion Saide of Hayward, CA and Joyce (Bill) Kaufman of Browns Valley, MN; grandchildren Nicole and Anthony Shaw; best friends: Bill (Gladyce) Oliver and Chester (Alyce) King; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also preceded in death by his sister Helen. Funeral services Monday, April 26, 2004 at 10:00 A.M. at Edmonds and Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Ave., Portage, IN. Rev. Timothy Engel officiating. Interment, Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso, IN. Visitation Sunday, April 25, 2004, 3:00 to 8:00 PM at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, Portage Chapel. Mr. Miller was a long time member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Hobart. He was a construction worker, retired from Laborers Union Local #81. A World War II Army Veteran (engineer) and recipient of the Purple Heart. Member of the D.A.V.
