Maine Governor. He was the son of Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General and Maine Governor Harris M. Plaisted. Educated at the St. Johnsbury Academy Vermont, he had a successful publishing career, when he entered politics in 1896, serving as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention. He was Major of Augusta, Maine, (1906 -10) and was Sheriff of Kennebec County, (1907-08). In 1911, he was elected as a Democrat the 48th Governor of Maine. During his tenure as Governor, a state constitutional prohibitory amendment was proposed that would have negated the 1883 prohibition amendment, but in a popular vote it was voted down. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, Plaisted retired from political life in 1913. He died at age 77 in Los Angeles, California.
