Carl E. Ewan, 86, of 165 Ron Morse Drive, Harrisburg, formerly of Eldorado, died 3:12 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007, at Herrin Hospital.

Services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007, at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado with the Rev. Dale Martin and the Rev. Gaylon Parks officiating. Burial will be in North America Cemetery with military rites. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007, at the funeral home with Masonic Rites 7 p.m.

He was born April 3, 1920, in Eldorado, to Oliver and Grace (Edwards) Ewan. He married Mary Ewan, who preceded him in death on Jan. 26, 2006


He was a World War II veteran. He was a charter member of New Lighthouse Baptist Church of Williford, Ark., and a member of North America Missionary Baptist Church. He was a member of the Eldorado Masonic Lodge No. 730 A.F. and A.M. He, along with his wife, owned and operated Glenwood Market in Eldorado and also laundromats in Eldorado, McLeansboro, Shawneetown, Golconda and Rosiclare. They also operated the Red Barn in Muddy from 1964 to 1971 and he was a life member of VFW Post in Eldorado.

He is survived by three daughters, Carla (Ken) Hankins of Galatia, Gail (the Rev. Ron) Orr of Marion and Vickie (Lindell) Johnson of Carrier Mills; several nieces and nephews; eight grandchildren, Darin Hankins, Devin Hankins, Steven Orr, Jamie Orr, Stephanie Treat, Kristie Clarida, Stephen Sloan II and Tyler Johnson; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Don Ewan.
