Ms. Bruso was born Jan. 2, 1955, in Greenfield, Mass., daughter of Mayona (Sullivan) Bruso and the late John J. Bruso. She earned her bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of Arizona, and was an Army veteran, stationed at Fort Huachua, Ariz. She had worked for the federal government as a computer specialist since 1974. A resident of Winsted for the last several years, she was employed by the U.S. Small Business Administration in Hartford, as an information technology specialist. She was involved in the community of Norfolk, where she was a girls youth coach for basketball and softball, and was a Girl Scout Leader of Troop 127 and a committee member of Boy Scout Troop 33.

Besides her mother, she leaves a brother and three sisters.
