Bertha B. Carpenter, 94, Taconite, died Friday, Nov. 24, 2006.in Grand Rapids, Minn. She was born Aug. 3, 1912 in Alexandria, Minn. to Levin and Myrtle Duncan. Bertha moved to Bena, Minn. as a young girl and married Clarence Carpenter in 1928. She had worked as a cook for the Bena school and the hotel until moving to Taconite in 1947 where she and her husband operated a boarding house for the DM & IR railroad. She later worked as a clerk for Kremer's Store in Grand Rapids. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Taconite and the Elderberry Club. She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence, a son Ron, a daughter Lois Beaulieu and 2 grandchildren. She is survived by 2 sons Robert Carpenter of Hoyt Lakes, Minn. and David (Julie) Carpenter of Grand Rapids, Minn, a daughter Beth (James) Anderson of Hoyt Lakes, a sister Hazel Allor in Mich., 20 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren 11 great great grandchildren and one great great great grandson. FUNERAL SERVICES:10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Taconite. The Rev. Lloyd Mudrak will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be in the Church, Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. with recitation of the rosary at 7:30 . Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery, Coleraine. Pallbearers are Bob Carpenter, Dave Carpenter, Tim Beaulieu, Ron Carpenter, Joe Carpenter and Mark Anderson.
