Medical Pioneer. During the Civil War he served as Surgeon of the 76th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and is credited with the first use of anesthesia on a battlefield. He came to Garden City, Kansas, on July 1, 1884, from Marysville, Ohio. He was a thoroughly competent, and an educated physician and surgeon, and had the respect of virtually every soldier that he came into contact with. In later years he was connected with banking and other business institutions of the city, and engaged extensively in cattle ranching. He died in Garden City, Kansas, on February 14, 1915. A great block of granite has been placed to mark his grave in Valley View cemetery, and Sabine Hall in Garden City was built in 1910. In 1920 it was named in honour of Dr. Andrew Sabine. His wife is buried by his side in Valley View Cemetery.
