Family story says that Cyrena was a young widow when she married Robert Ash and that she was 1/4 Cherokee Indian. I have not been able to verify either of these family stories.

1860, 1870 and 1880 US Federal Census' consistently give her place of birth as Illinois. The 1880 census lists her father and mother as being born in Tennessee.
