Great Great Grandfather - did not serve in New York.War Department, the Adjutant General's OfficeDavid Smith, Co. F, 129 Reg't, Ohio InfAge 18, Enlisted in the U. S. Service, Mar of 1861 - 1865. Said David enlisted June the 19, 1863 as a private in the above mentioned service and was discharged from Said service at Cleveland, Ohio on the 5 day of March 1864. His orderly sergeant of Co F. 19th Infantry, Benjamin E. Edgell, stated that, "I know David Smith of same company and regiment. Was put on a forced march from Camp Nelson Kentucky to the Cumberland Gap on or about the 20 day of August 1863. It was a very hot day, and on account of heat and extreme fatigue, soldier David Smith it is believed and I believe he received a sun stroke from which he was disabled very much. As to his hospital record at Cumberland Gap, I was taken away from regiment and hospital on a sick leave of absence to a farm house before he came in, therefore, did not see him at the hospital and further, I declare that I have no interest in said case and am not concerned in it's prosecution".
