Uncle of Joachim Ruthenberg and Henry Ruthenberg via his eldest half-sister Hanna (1803-1882)
According to great-grandson Laverne Hugmeyer he was a Prussian nobleman known as "Baron von Freiheit" while living in Germany. He allegedly sold all of his belongings and moved his family here as he was unhappy with life there. In America he was a bouncer known as "Mecklenburg John". The only part of any of this that has been proven is that he was from Mecklenburg.
