Born Aug. 4, 1945, in Franklin County, he was the son of Dank Payne and the late Grace York Payne. He was the brother of the late Kenneth Payne. He was a mechanic and owner-operator of Plainview Garage and Truck Repair of Carnesville. He was an active Mason, member of Hebron Lodge 564 and was a member and active deacon of Indian Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include his father, Dank Payne of Carnesville; wife, Linda Garrison Payne of Carnesville; son, Mike Payne of Carnesville; two daughters, Gayle Floyd and Karen Crane of Carnesville; three grandchildren; and, one sister, Frances Murphy of Carnesville.
