Re-recruited his command among exchanged prisoners at Vicksburg in early December 1862.
This unit was originally recruited in Calhoun Co., Va. as partisan rangers and was recognized as Co. I Virginia State Rangers.
Called a band of robbers and plunderers on 4 Apr. 1962 when they were stationed at Lewisburg. Greenbrier Co., Va.
This unit was incorporated into the 3rd Regiment, Virginia State Line.
