Dorothy J. "Sam" (nee Harper) Mallett, 80, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2005, at Marymount Hospital, Garfield Heights. She was born in Casey, Ill., and was a former resident of Middleburg Heights and recently a resident of Garfield Heights. Mrs. Mallett owned the B&S cleaning business in Middleburg Heights for 10 years. In her childhood, she and her siblings performed in a small family band known as The Peach Pickers. They played and toured southern Illinois. When Dorothy was 60 years old, she took classes in sociology at Tri-C and Cleveland State University. She loved life and everyone she met. She wrote poetry for many years and was busy revising her past poems to assemble a book. She was an avid reader and always had a true thirst for new knowledge. She was the mother of Kathleen (Frank) Mallett of Willowick, Mary Jane (Paul) Sakal of Garfield Heights and Edward T. (Denise) Mallett Jr. of Spencer; grandmother of Matthew, Bethany, Jenna and Shaena Mallett, Sara and Jennifer Sakal and Roslyn Arensberg; great-grandmother of Jacob Arensberg; and sister of Delcie Harper, Virginia Phillips, Kathy McCoy and Lee and Dean Harper. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward T. "Ted" Mallett, and siblings, John and Kay Harper. Funeral Mass: 9 a.m. Friday at St. Peter the Apostle Church, 6455 Engle Road, Brook Park. Burial: Woodvale Cemetery, Middleburg Heights. Visiting hours: 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Baker-Osinski-Kensinger Funeral Home, 206 Front St., Berea. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Sam Mallett to the Kevon P. Clinton Wildlife Center, 8668 Kirtland-Chardon Road, Kirtland, 44094.
