Martha J. Pipes, 75, of Terre Haute, passed away at 11a.m., Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at Davis Gardens Health Care Center of Terre Haute. Born April 16, 1928 in Terre Haute, she was the daughter of Lester and Florence (Waggoner) Duncan. She was the former director of the Medical Surgical Ward at Union Hospital, and was a retired registered nurse. She was a graduate of Union Hospital School of Nursing. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Jasonville; a Tri Kappa Chapter member in Jasonville; and a member of the Lawton Street Christian Church in Jasonville. Survivors include her husband, Gareth E. Pipes of Terre Haute; son and daughter-in-law, Douglas E. and Connie Pipes of Terre Haute; sister, Pat Gambill; grandson, Christopher Pipes, a senior at the University of Kentucky; granddaughter, Ashley Pipes, a sophomore at Butler University; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by stepmother, Edith Duncan; one sister, Helen Smith; one niece, Lynn Turner; and her parents. Funeral service will be at DeBaun Springhill Chapel in Terre Haute at 11 a.m. on Saturday with the Rev. Mark Messmer officiating. Burial will follow at Farmersburg West Lawn Cemetery.
