James Michael Long was born June 24, 1946 at Algona, Iowa to Carl and Emily Johnson Long. He grew up, was baptized and confirmed at the Samuel Lutheran Church of Eagle Grove. He attended and received his education from Corwith and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1964. He received his bachelor's degree from Wartburg College in Waverly.
On July 16, 1983 he and Lynda Walton were married, and they were living at Lake Okoboji, Spirit Lake. He was a past member of Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove.
He was hospitalized at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn, and died there on Saturday, November 12, 1994 at the age of 48. Survivors include his wife, Lynda, Spirit Lake; his four children, Brent Long and wife, Lori, Elkhart, Ind.; Lisa Brinker and husband, Anthony; Kory Long and wife, Carrie, all of Virginia, Ill.; Michelle Bley and husband, George II, Palm Harbor, Fla.; parents, Carl and Emily Long, Corwith; three grandchildren; one brother, David Long and wife, Joan, Postville; and one sister, Sherrie Dobson, and husband, Larry, Chaska, Minn.
Funeral services for James Michael Long were held Tuesday, November 15, 1994 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Corwith with Reverend Caroline Engelbrecht officiating. Burial was in Corwith Cemetery in Corwith. Willim Funeral Home in Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.
