Barney grew up in Jay, Oklahoma where he attended school and was a graduate of Jay High School. While attending Jay High School, Barney played both football and basketball.
Following graduation he worked as a restaurant cook before becoming a Certified Dietary Manager. Barney would begin working at WW Hastings Hospital serving 32 years there as a Dietary Manager until retiring in 2001.
On December 16, 1983, Barney married Linda Sue Edwards at th(e) Peggs Community Church.
Barney enjoyed fishing, watching football, and playing golf. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #2601, The Masonic Lodge #10 and the Shriners.
Barney has been preceded in death by his parents; several sisters, and a brother.
Barney is survived by his wife Linda of the home; children, Roseann Jackson and Gary of Soldotna, Alaska, Michael Earp of Hulbert, Oklahoma, Vickie McMahan and Ricky also of Hulbert, Oklahoma, Bryan Murphy of Tahlequah, Oklahoma and Brooke Murphy also of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Christine Davis of Chewey, Oklahoma, and Melba Price of Jay, Oklahoma.
