US Congressman. Educated at Greenbrier Academy, he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1890 and commenced to practice law in Conway, Arkansas. In 1891, he moved to Muskogee, Indian Territory Oklahoma, practiced law and was a member of the Territorial Council. He was also an attorney for the Cherokee Nation, and Mayor of Vinita. In 1907, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixtieth Congress, serving until Oklahoma admitted as a State into the Union, in 1909. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law, was elected judge of the criminal court of appeals of Oklahoma in 1926 and served until his death at age 75.
