Michael D. Gordon, 67, of Windom died Oct. 12, 2013, at Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls. Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Windom with Father Russell Scepaniak officiating. Michael Dean Gordon was born Aug. 26, 1946, to Walter Edward and Mildred Eileen (Dresch) Gordon in Sioux Falls. He was baptized in 1946 and later confirmed at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Montrose, S.D. He graduated from Montrose High School in 1964 and attended South Dakota State University for 1½ years. Mike enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1967 and served during the Vietnam War for one year. He was honorably discharged in 1970. In 1970, Mike married Janis Lee Thompson in Beresford, S.D. Mike worked for Western Electric/Northwestern Bell/Qwest for 30 years as a lineman until retiring in 2002. In retirement, Mike and Jan continued living in Windom. Mike was a longtime member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Windom where he sang in the choir and helped with Meals on Wheels.
He also was a member of the American Legion, DAV, Veterans Administration, Karz and Trux Car Club and Hardee's Coffee Group. He enjoyed attending auctions, gardening, hunting, socializing, debating and watching NASCAR. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and will be remembered as a proud Democrat and Vietnam veteran.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Shayla Niemeier.
