Lavaugh Eugene Blades, 85

L. Eugene (Gene) Blades, 85, formerly of 808 W Riverside Ave., died Tuesday in Liberty Village Health Care after a long illness.

Mr. Blades was born in Madison County and moved to Delaware County in 1916. He graduated from Gaston High School in 1930. He moved to Pennville and become a dairy farmer. He worked at Indiana Boys School, Plainfield, Indiana Masonic Home, Franklin, and City Board of Health, Munice, before he became a dairy inspector for the Indiana board of Health until retiring in 1973.

He was a member of DeSoto United Methodist Church; Pennville Masonic Lodge 212, where he was a past master, Murpah Shrine; past patron of Pennville Eastern Star; Fort Wayne Scottish Rite; Moose Lodge 33; Ledgion of Moose, and a former member of Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include a daughter, Fanchon Davis Schounce, Muncie; six grandchildren, Michele Rinker and Jill Lewis, both of Munice, Kaline Schounce, Indianapolis, Timothy Davis, Alabama, Rhonda Cooper, Chicago and Kurk Davis, Atlanta, Ga,; seven great-grandchildren and three cousins, John W. Harrold (wife: Alice) Munice, Mike Harrold, Farmland and J.D. Harrold, Warshaw.

His wife, Marie Blades, died in 1991. His parents, Chester L. and Estella B. Cranfill Blades, and a stepson, William E. Davis, are also deceased.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday in Meeks Mortuary. Emtombment will be in Elm Ridge Mausoluem.

Calling will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday and before services Friday at the mortuary.
