Garland Edward Allen Jr. was the son of Garland Edward (1845-1923) and Margaret Mitchell Murphy Allen (1864-1944), of Louisville. He graduated from the University of Louisville School of Law in 1928. He was assistant city law director for Louisville, Jefferson Circuit Court commissioner and served in WWI in 1918. He was a long time secretary of the Louisville American Business Club and former member of the Louisville Boat Club. His son, Dr. Garland Edward Allen III (b.1936)(U.L. 1957)(Harvard M.S. 1958, PhD 1966), was a professor of biology at Washington University in St. Louis, 1967-2014.
