Ballerina. Born Doris May in San Fernando, Trinidad, she trained with Freda Grant (London, UK) Old Preobrajenska and Lubov Egorova (Paris France) and then Ninette de Valois at Sadler's Well School in 1933 joining the company and making her debut the next year. She became a leading dancer quickly and was made a ballerina in 1952. She was a key performer in English ballerina along with Margot Fonteyn. She danced nearly all the major joins and created roles in many ballets including De Valois's Checkmate, Prospect Before Us and Don Quixote. Ashton's Dante Sonata, Symphonic Variations and Cinderella. A dancer of stunning versatility she made a brilliant Lilac Fairy and Myrtha. After retiring she taught at the Royal Ballet School from 1954 to 1977.
