Burwell Clarence "Pete" Boyles, Jr. was born in Oct. 13, 1922 in Petersburg City, Virginia. He was the son of Burwell Clarence "Burell/BC" Boyles (1894-1889) and Sallie Ruth Cobb (1894-1985), the second of their three known children. Both of Pete's parents are buried in Alamance Memorial Park in Burlington, Alamance Co., NC.

Pete's father, Burell Sr., was born in New London, Stanly Co., North Carolina. He was the son of Dr. Augustus Clingman "A.C." Boyles (1867-1936) and Anna Elizabeth "Annie" Coggin (1862-1914), both buried in Maplewood Cemetery located in Durham, Durham Co., NC.

Pete's paternal great-grandparents were Rev. Marcus Wrightman "M.W." Boyles (1842-1892) and Susannah Alice "Susan" Wood (1846-1895). His paternal GG-grandparents were Rev. Josiah Adolphus Boyles (1816-1894) and Anna Elizabeth "Annie" Yount (1819-1905). His paternal GGG-grandparents were Rev. John Boyles (1770-1843) and Margaret Whitaker (1765-1844). Pete's G-GF, GG-GF and GGG-GF were all "old-time" Methodist Episcopal (M.E.)circuit preachers. All were born in North Carolina, lived and died there.

Pete's mother, Sallie, was the daughter of William Rankin "Willie" Cobb (1868-1917) and Lula Ella Wright (1869-1955). Both were born in Guilford Co., NC and both are buried in Friedens Lutheran Church Cemetery in Gibsonville, Guilford Co., NC.

Pete, a WWII veteran, enlisted in the US Army on Dec. 1, 1942. Served until Feb. 14, 1946.

On Dec. 27, 1946, Pete married Mary Ellen Shaw (1922-2012) in Gibsonville, Alamance Co., NC at the Sharon Lutheran Church. Born in that same county, she was the daughter of James Earl Shaw (1892-1975) and Mary Susan "Sudie" Cook (1893-1968). Mary Ellen's parents are buried in Oakwood Cemetery located in Mebane, Alamance Co., NC.

Pete and Mary Ellen were married for 57 years and had two known children. They were Susan Ruth Boyles (1948- ) and Mary Carolyn Boyles (1955- ). Both where born in Gibsonville, Guilford Co., NC.

Pete died on Dec. 6, 2003 in Burlington, Alamance Co., NC at the age of 81. He is buried in Alamance Memorial Park in Burlington, NC where his parents are buried. His sister, Ruth Cobb (Boyles) Walker (1921-2004), and her husband, Irvin Strowd Walker (1919-1989), are also buried there.

Mary Ellen died on Dec. 2, 2012, also in Burlington, NC. She too, is buried in Alamance Memorial Park, next to her beloved husband, Pete.
