Roy C. Bookhagen
GLENFIELD — Roy C. Bookhagen, 87, passed away unexpectedly on Friday morning, March 26, 2010, at his home on Church Road.
Born on May 4, 1922, at his family home in Tonawanda, a son of the late Edward C. and Rosemary Juhl Bookhagen, Roy graduated from Kenmore West High School. After graduating, he proudly served with the United States Army Air Corps during WWII.
On August 2, 1967, he was married to Marjorie M. McIntyre at St. John's Church in Buffalo, NY. Roy was employed by Sylvania in Buffalo, NY for 32 years until the plant closed. It was at that time that the couple moved to the Otter Creek area in 1973 and Roy went to work as a machinist for Burrows Paper Co. in 1986.
Roy was an avid kite flyer and took top honors as the oldest kite flyer for 18 out of the 20 years as he participated in the yearly kite flying contest in Lewis County. He also loved to sail. He and his wife enjoyed many years at their camp on Sand Pond.
In addition to his wife, Marj, Roy is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Amy S. and Craig Dailey of Constableville; two grandchildren, Lucas and Jenna Dailey who referred to him as "Granddad."
He is predeceased by all his four brothers and two sisters.
Calling hours will be on Monday evening, March 29, 2010, from 4-7 p.m. at the Sundquist Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the Old Glendale Cemetery with Rev. Naomi Kelly, pastor of the Forest Presbyterian Church officiating.
