Ellie Ruth (Allen) Tyler, 79, of Schuyler, passed away on Wednesday morning, April 24, 2013, at the University of Virginia Medical Center, in the arms of her three loving children. She was born on May 14, 1933, in Smithfield, N.C., one of 10 children of the late David Monroe and Lyda (Partin) Allen.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Edward Tyler; two brothers, S.D. and George Allen; and three sisters, Leah Smith, Lovenia Roberts and Eunice Otto.

Mrs. Tyler retired as a Bookkeeper at Sweet Briar College. She was a faithful member of New Faith United Methodist Church in Schuyler, where she was active in the United Methodist Women. She loved gardening and canning, but above all she strived to be a devoted wife and loving mother.

She leaves behind three children, Albert Jennings Moreland Jr., Patricia Moreland Germelman and Janet Moreland Watson; four grandchildren, Alyson Leah Germelman Wood, Nathan Jeremiah Germelman, Christopher Brian Watson, and Pamela Michele Watson Purswell; two adoring great-grandchildren, Olivia Tyler Wood and Ty Noah Wood; two brothers, Bill and Jessee Allen; and two sisters, Ann Underwood and Louise Simmons. Our sweet mother leaves behind many devoted friends and touched the lives of so many.

She was an inspiration to her friends and family and her multitude of caregivers. She was an angel on earth and now in heaven.

A memorial service was held Sunday, April 28, 2013, at New Faith United Methodist Church in Schuyler. The family received friends immediately following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to New Faith United Methodist Church, 6731 Rockfish River Road, Schuyler, VA 22969 or the Nelson County Food Bank, P.O. Box 353, Lovingston, VA 22949.
