PORTALES, N.M. - Helen Opal Nethery, 76, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 1997, in American Falls, Idaho. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Helen Catholic Church with the Rev. Anthony Martinez officiating. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mrs. Nethery was born in Elida and raised on a cattle ranch in New Mexico. She graduated from Elida High School in 1938. She married Jennings Nethery in 1947. She moved with her family to Colorado and Utah and finally settled in American Falls in 1962. While living in American Falls, she was a deputy sheriff at Power County Sheriff's office, where she was a dispatcher and issued driver's licenses. She retired in 1984. Mr. Nethery died in 1985, and Mrs. Nethery returned to New Mexico. She was a Catholic. Survivors include two sisters, Lillian Gore of Portales and Marjorie Simich of Napa, Calif.; her children, Ted Nethery of Seattle, Marie Smith of Pocatello, Idaho, Gary Nethery of American Falls, Bill Nethery of York, S.C., and Belinda Nethery of Manassas, Va.; and six grandchildren.
